چکیده
The aim of this study was to improve the characteristics natural collapsible soils using geogrid-encased stone column technique. For purpose, 20 large-scale specimens columns were prepared rigid metal cylinders with a diameter 308 mm and height 97 154 according unit cell theory. aspect ratio 10% 25%. occurrence bulging failure, considered six times diameter. encased geogrids varying stiffness from 80 200 kN/m. soil around inside compacted similar site conditions. Loading applied test, which determines collapsibility potential while being inundated bottom cylinder by water feeding system. During loading, vertical displacements measured at two locations on loading plate. results showed that settlement due inundation diminished increasing ratio. optimum approximately 15%. Encasement increased lateral pressure in prevented collapse column. values compared prediction model good agreement. data obtained can be used as practical method during inundation.

Numerical Analysis of Geosynthetic-Encased Stone Columns under Laterally Loads
Out of all methods for ground improvement, stone column became more popular these days due to its simple construction and economic consideration. Installation of stone column especially in loose fine graded soil causes increasing in load bearing capacity and settlement reduction. Encased granular stone columns (EGCs) are commonly subjected to vertical load. However, they may also be subjected t...
متن کاملFailure Process of Stone Columns in Collapsible Soils
Many countries in the word have loose and unstable soils encompassing a wide range ofgeological materials, which when inundated, may collapse and cause very significant distress to the structure. Stone columns have been used to strengthen such soils; even so, there are still cases where failure has occurred. In this technical note, the process and causes of stone column failure in reinforcing c...

متن کاملExperimental and Numerical Investigation of Reinforced Sand Slope Using Geogird Encased Stone Column
Among all of the slope stability methods, use of stone columns and geosynthetic elements can be a good way for stabilizing. One of the efficient ways in order to reinforce earth slopes is Geogrid Encased Stone Column (GESC). This technique can dramatically increase bearing capacity and decrease settlement rate. The aim of this paper is experimentally to investigate a comparison between the beha...
